Hi.

Welcome to my blog where I share the gems I've learned along the way. Sharing is caring, my friends... and I didn't go through all these struggles for nothin', y'all!  I hope to offer you hope, encouragement, and a laugh or two along the way!

Who is responsible?

Who is responsible?

Let’s talk folks about who is responsible for your health.

If there is anything I help you understand here in this space, with my story, the things I’ve experienced, and the things I’ve seen working in healthcare… let me assure you that the ONLY person that is responsible for your health is YOU.

No one is more qualified, no one is more in tune with your needs, and no one is more invested in a positive outcome.

Did you know that you employ your healthcare professionals?  Do you know they work for you? Every time you schedule a visit with them, they should be providing you with their recommendations, but you decide which of their recommendations feel right to you.  You decide if you would like to get a 2nd opinion. YOU are in charge. You can accept or decline any medication or procedure.

You can also decide to look at all of your options.  Dig past the censored pages of Google searches to see that there might be another way to understand and tackle your ailment.  If you don’t understand how your body works, I PLEAD with you to learn the basics. Understand the basics of where your organs are located and their basic functions.  Sisters… understand the basics of your menstrual cycle. For example, It’s not a “SISK”, its a “cyst” and most of those on your ovaries are supposed to be there, they are called follicles and they house your eggs.  Understand the basics of your hormones and what might be interfering with them.

Most importantly, understand the impact your nutrition has on all of these basic functions.  That every single thing you put in and on your body is either leading you towards better health or leading you closer to disease.  That the foods you eat DO affect how your brain works, how your joints feel, and how you cope with stressors. Understand that every medication has side effects that must be reconciled. There is a cause and effect to every choice you make. But, YOU get to make the choices.

In my story, the more I personally learned about how my body worked and the more I dug and searched for the root cause of my issues… the more empowered I became!  I became more in tune with my body. I realized a myriad of symptoms that my doctors thought were unrelated could be connected back to one root. I realized I had more control than I thought over the outcome.

To get you thinking about what your body is telling you, let’s revisit Epigenetics. <<click this link.  I promise it is worth the quick read. We don’t have to be a victim of our genetics.  But, understanding them and some basic biology can be a game changer!

Have you felt like your body is telling you something?  Do you feel like you are in tune with it? Do you feel like you know enough to be your own best advocate?  What would like to understand more? Let’s talk. I so want to empower you to be the very best advocate for yourself!
